I liked how the article distinguished critical design from commentary. While it does comment on the differences between affirmative design, it's not meant to be critical of that artwork. Instead, it brings to light a different, intentionally unique, or contradicting perspective that requires critical thinking about modern art and culture as a whole.
It also brings to like the common negative light that critical design is associated with. Because of its contrasting nature, it can be seen as cynicism and harsh commentary on the mainstream works. This is why the author emphasizes the need for physical, real works of critical design to distinguish itself from those concepts. Critical design is an art in itself, not just an idea. Although, it may be harder to conceive because it derives from imagination rather than reality and cultures that already exist like the affirmative design.
